About us

airWales is a Cardiff-based virtual airline created to reflect a modern Welsh regional flag carrier built on realism, structure, and national identity. Designed with operational authenticity at its core, airWales provides pilots with a cohesive and immersive airline experience that mirrors real-world airline strategy rather than casual route expansion.

Operating a carefully structured mixed fleet, airWales connects Wales to the wider UK and Europe through a tiered network model. Regional services across the UK and Ireland are operated by the ATR 42, providing efficient turboprop connectivity between key domestic destinations. From Swansea, the Saab 340 operates under the “Wales Connect” division, strengthening local Welsh air links and offering short, community-focused sectors that add depth and realism to the network. For higher-demand short and medium-haul services, the Airbus A320 forms the backbone of the mainline fleet, while the Boeing 737 MAX 8 supports extended European routes and busier corridors requiring additional capacity.

Every aircraft type within airWales serves a defined purpose, with routes planned according to realistic distance bands and demand logic. Rather than operating as a simple flight logging group, airWales is structured to simulate the operational philosophy of a genuine carrier. Dispatch planning, fleet allocation, performance tracking, and structured scheduling all contribute to a professional environment where flights have intent and progression is meaningful.

The airline also offers a complete custom fleet livery package across both payware and freeware aircraft variants, ensuring visual consistency and immersion regardless of simulator setup. Branding is built around a strong Welsh identity, combining national pride with a modern European airline aesthetic.

airWales is built for pilots who value authenticity, operational depth, and a sense of belonging within a structured network. It represents a confident, modern Welsh carrier in the virtual skies — professional in approach, community-driven in spirit, and committed to delivering a realistic airline experience from the heart of Wales.

What makes us special?

What makes airWales stand out is the balance between realism, accessibility, and community.

We are structured like a real-world regional carrier, with defined fleet roles, logical route planning, and realistic dispatch procedures. However, we deliberately avoid limiting our pilots to payware aircraft. While we fully support high-fidelity payware options, we also provide compatibility with freeware variants and offer a complete custom fleet livery set across both. This ensures that pilots can join and participate fully regardless of their simulator budget, without sacrificing immersion or professionalism.

Operationally, airWales is supported by custom-built Discord bots that handle dispatch information and schedule generation. These tools are designed to streamline the pilot experience, making flight planning structured and engaging rather than manual and repetitive. Instead of static spreadsheets or generic logging systems, our automation helps replicate the feel of a live airline operation.

At the same time, we place strong emphasis on culture. airWales is a welcoming and supportive community where new and experienced pilots alike can feel comfortable. We encourage progression, offer achievement awards and milestones, and maintain a professional atmosphere without becoming restrictive or elitist.

In short, airWales combines operational depth, technical innovation, accessibility, and community spirit. We aim to provide a realistic airline experience that remains open, modern, and enjoyable for every pilot who joins.

Public Review Guidelines

We welcome honest and constructive feedback from pilots. To keep reviews useful and fair, please follow these rules:

  1. Base it on your own experience — You must be a current or former pilot of the Virtual Airline you are reviewing, and only write about what you have personally experienced.
  2. Keep it respectful — No offensive language, profanity, personal attacks, or discriminatory remarks. Criticism is fine, but focus on the airline or its operations, not individuals.
  3. Be specific enough to be meaningful — Helpful reviews include details such as routes, events, community, or support. One-line praise or criticism without explanation may be rejected.
  4. Avoid conflicts of interest — Don’t post if you’re part of a competing Virtual Airline and leaving negative feedback. Don’t review your own airline.
  5. No campaigns or manipulation — Don’t encourage others to post reviews in bulk, whether positive or negative.
How we moderate reviews
  • All reviews are checked by the MNA Team before publishing.
  • We operate on a trust basis — we assume your review is genuine unless there’s a reason to question it.
  • Reviews may be temporarily hidden if they need clarification or breach these rules.
  • If no update is provided when requested, the review may be permanently removed.
  • Initial publication does not guarantee a review will remain visible.
